Armenia's Ancient Soul

Armenia is a landlocked transcontinental nation located in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. Formally a Soviet Republic, the country gained independence in 1991.

Armenia is bordered by Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan and is known for being one of the oldest wine-producing in the world, with its stunning scenery and rich culture.

Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity so you can find some of the world’s oldest churches often in the most picturesque settings in this fascinating country.

One of Armenia’s most sacred spots is Mount Ararat which is the country’s symbol and is believed to be the resting place of Noah’s Ark. The mountain is actually in the neighbouring country Turkey. Still, it can be seen from a monastery in Armenia called Khor Virap, a popular place to visit and offers breathtaking views of this sacred peak.

Yerevan's Historic Heart

Being the first country to adopt Christianity, you will be sure to find plenty of churches and monasteries, many located in remote but beautiful locations.

Sevanavank Monastery sits overlooking the magnificent Lake Seven, the largest lake in the country. You can enjoy some recreational activities on the lake, such as windsurfing, and there are also beaches to relax on if water sports aren’t your thing.

Head to the capital city Yerevan to learn about the country’s history and time under the rule of the Soviet Union. A visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial is a humbling must-visit where you can pay tribute to the millions of lives lost in the early 20th century.

Armenian Adventure Awaits

Adventure lovers should head to Shikahogh State Reserve to explore this primarily untouched forest and area of natural beauty. Leopards, bears, and wild goats, among many others, are some of the creatures that call this beautiful place home, although the full extent of the reserve biodiversity has yet to be discovered.

Dilijan National Park is another area featuring spectacular scenery, natural springs, and many of the country’s most important monasteries. For breathtaking views of the Armenian landscape, head to Amberd Fortress to see the ruined remains of a seventh-century military defence.

Winter sports enthusiasts should head to Tsaghkadzor, a popular ski resort considered the best in a country filled with snow-topped mountainous landscapes.
