Finland: Nature’s Wonderland

Finland is located in Northern Europe, and its borders include Sweden, Norway and Russia. The country is known for its outstanding natural beauty and for its high standard of living, making it one of the happiest countries in the world to live in.

Finland is also famous for being one of the best places to see the Northern Lights, and tourists flock here to get a glimpse of this natural phenomenon and enjoy the snowy delights of Lapland. The country has a relatively cold climate, although there are four distinct seasons in some parts of the country.

In Finnish Lapland, there is a subarctic climate with long days of darkness. The sun sets in November and doesn’t rise again until January, with around 50 days of complete and utter darkness.

Helsinki’s Architectural Wonders

Finland’s capital city of, Helsinki, is located on a peninsula in the Gulf of Finland in the south of the country. The capital is known for its architecture, art and cultural influences, including Russian and Swedish influences. A clean, walkable city, Helsinki has lots to offer for travellers.

Some of the most popular things to do include visiting the Helsinki Cathedral and exploring the inhabited sea fortress of Sveaborg. The UNESCO World Heritage Sight has walking trails and is a popular picnic spot in the warmer months.

Lapland’s Magical Winter

Lapland is, of course, one of the most popular destinations in Finland and for good reason. Explore snowy wonderlands as you race to see the Northern Lights, and try out some unique experiences like a reindeer-driven sleigh ride.

Finland has a strong connection to Santa Claus, more so than any other country, which attracts families looking to delight little ones with the magical winter experience of Lapland.

The country is also known for its many wonderful saunas, and one to check out is Herrankukkaro – the world’s biggest underground smoke sauna.
