Hungary’s Hidden Gems

Hungary is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. Known for its stunning capital, Budapest, its famous people, such as Harry Houdini and its traditional dishes, such as goulash.

The country is largely underrated, and although it is home to many national parks and areas of outstanding beauty, many travellers only really come to visit its majestic capital city.

 

Budapest: A Cultural Feast

Budapest is known for its rich culture, stunning parliament buildings and for being the world’s spa capital. The city is dissected by the vast Danube River, with bridges connecting the different parts of the city.

One of the best things to do in the city is to take a river cruise to enjoy the various sights. The Parliament buildings, Chain Bridge, Margaret Island and Fisherman’s Bastion, are some of the stunning sights that can be spotted on a cruise down the Danube.

Head to the Central Market Hall to try Hungarian dishes of goulash and langos and make yourself dizzy with a spirally walk to the top of St. Stephen’s Basilica – there’s no end of historical sights to visit.

The capital is also home to many thermal spa complexes, with popular ones such as Szechenyi Spa and Gellert Spa drawing the crowds.

 

Unearth Budapest’s Surroundings

Further afield, there are many other beautiful places to explore in Budapest. Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Europe and has plenty of outdoor activities for you to try out.

Explore lush, green landscapes or spend a relaxing afternoon in a vineyard trying out locally produced wines. The picturesque town of Szentendre is a beautiful place to explore.

Wander past brightly coloured houses and browse the town’s markets for fantastic arts, crafts and artisanal products.
