Poland is located in central Europe and is known for its delicious foods, beautiful mountains, rivers and coastline landscapes, and being the birthplace of vodka!
The country has some outstanding natural scenery, including the magical Białowieża Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient primeval forest sits on the border between Poland and Belarus and is the last lowland forest in Europe, which still retains areas that are untouched by man.
The country also has some beautiful coastal areas. Some of the beaches in Poland are some of the best in the world, with soft golden sands, great places to swim and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat – although it can get bitterly cold here during the winter months!
Visit the capital city of Warsaw to explore a place that was rebuilt after the almost complete destruction of the city during World War II. Wander the beautiful Old Town, which feels as if you’ve stepped back into the past due to the incredible reconstruction of the buildings.
Be sure to check out the historic Old Town Square with its bustling shops and cafes. Once the capital of Poland, don’t miss out on a trip to magnificent Krakow. The bustling city has lots to offer travellers, including gorgeous architecture, fantastic cafe culture and vibrant nightlife.
For a unique day trip, take a visit to the Crooked Forest. This area of forest contains over 400 trees with strangely bent trunks. No one is quite sure how and why the trunks are crooked, but it’s a fascinating place to explore.
Of course, no one should visit Poland without taking a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau to learn about the Holocaust. What was once the largest Nazi German concentration camp is now a museum memorial dedicated to the many lives that were lost here. A humbling but poignant memorial.
