Balearic Islands: Sun & Sea

The Balearic Islands are an archipelago of islands off the coast of Spain, and Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera are the four main isles. Known for the sun-kissed beaches and crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, the main islands are popular tourist destinations that offer year-round warm climates, fabulous nightlife and gorgeous dramatic scenery to explore.

The main language spoken here is Balearic Catalan, a mix of Catalan’s different dialects, although Castilian (Spanish) is widely spoken and understood.

Mallorca: A Blend of Beauty

The main island of Mallorca is known for its gorgeous beaches, hidden coves and the Tramuntana Mountain range, which has various hiking trails offering breathtaking views of the island.

The capital city, Palma de Mallorca, is beautiful, with a wonderful mix of culture, history, shopping, nightlife and fantastic food. Dominated by the majestic Le Seu Cathedral, the waterfront city has a historic old town filled with cobbled narrow alleys to explore and modern shopping streets with luxury retailers and upmarket bars.

Mallorca’s little sister, Menorca, offers a more laid-back Balearic Island experience. Long sandy beaches, crystal clear coves of water and that relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle are still on offer here – but without the crowds of popular Mallorca and Ibiza.

Ibiza: Party & Peace

Ibiza is a party paradise. The island has a world-famous nightlife scene, with huge dance clubs playing the latest house and dance music. Yoga retreats, quaint villages and picturesque beaches are also abundant here, and the island attracts modern-day hippies looking to soak up the sun on the White Isle.

The smallest of the four islands – Formentera – is a true island paradise. Long stretches of white sand, unbelievably turquoise waters and many beach bars ensure it’s a popular spot. Super sleek yachts and sailboats descend on the island to soak up the Spanish sun and dive into crystal clear waters.

All four islands have their own unique blend of Spanish history, culture and lusted-over beach views.
