The nation has a rich history, has produced incredible literary and sporting heroes and is known for the British Empire and the Royal Family, one of the world’s oldest monarchies.
England’s Iconic Landmarks
England makes up just over half (53%) of the total per cent of the UK, and many people consider England to be the main country of the UK.
The capital city of London is both the capital of England and the UK and is one of the most famous cities worldwide. It is the financial, political and cultural hub of the country and is, of course, home to the British Royal Family.
London has a rich and fascinating history, and there are many monuments, buildings and historical places to visit, such as the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Tower Bridge.
Outside of London, there are plenty of other incredible sights, such as Stonehenge near Salisbury, a UNESCO World Heritage Sight, the Roman Baths in the beautiful spa city of Bath and the city of Oxford with its magical spires and medieval colleges.
UK’s Majestic Outdoors
Nature lovers will be spoilt for choice with the country’s many national parks and outstanding natural beauty. Explore the Lake District in the north of England, which is home to 16 lakes spread over the national park.
You can take a traditional steamer boat across Ullswater Lake to admire the incredible views or go hiking in the peaks. Take a breathtaking coastal walk along the UNESCO World Heritage Sight that is the Jurassic Coast. Durdle Door is a popular tourist spot and has one of the most iconic views of the south coast.
With no place in England further than 70 miles from the coast, many of the most beautiful places are rugged cliffs and sandy beaches perfect for exploring.
Head to Cornwall for dazzlingly clear water and a surfers paradise whilst the northern coastlines are more rugged and windswept but still just as beautiful. The UK has a rich history combined with the charm and character of its stunning towns and cities.
