Antigua and Barbuda Beach Bliss

Antigua and Barbuda is a group of three islands (which also includes Redonda) and it is an independent Commonwealth country located in the West Indies in the Caribbean.

The country lies where the Caribbean and the Atlantic meet and is known for its incredibly beautiful beaches, yachting fame and rich cultural heritage.

The main island of Antigua is the larger of the two at just 14 miles long, but it really packs a punch with coastline and beaches. The two islands have 365 beaches between them – one for every day of the year!

The island’s beautiful Caribbean location and the many beaches mean that the country is a popular tourist destination and there are plenty of luxury resorts, as well as more affordable traditional guesthouses.

Antigua Sailing and Historic Harbours

Antigua and Barbuda is also a popular sailing destination. The trade winds that come off of the Atlantic Ocean make this a fantastic place to take to the seas, and the island is dotted with sailing boats, luxury catamarans and yachts.

Many of these lie in popular harbour areas such as English Harbour, Jolly Harbour and Falmouth Harbour. English Harbour is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sight of Nelson’s Dockyard.

This cultural heritage sight is located in Nelson’s Dockyard National Park and the fully restored 18th and 19th-century Georgian buildings were once a base of the Royal Navy.

Antigua Views, Vibes and History

A popular tourist spot is the famous Shirley Heights Viewpoint. You can hike up to the spot where you will get incredible and iconic views over the bay of English and Falmouth harbour.

There is a bar and a restaurant at the top serving delicious Caribbean dishes, local rum punch and live music including steel drum bands in the evening. Stay to watch the sunset whilst enjoying the sounds of the island.

History lovers will enjoy wandering around the historic capital city of St. John’s. Snap some pictures of the colourful streets on Redcliffe Quay and take a visit to the Museum of Antigua to learn more about the history of this incredible country.
