Belize Reefs, Ruins and Rainforest

Belize is a Caribbean and Central American country which is located on the eastern coast of Central America. It is bordered by Mexico and Guatemala. Belize is known for its rich Mayan history, incredible barrier reef and its diverse natural wonders such as jungles and rainforests.

The Belize Barrier Reef is the second-largest reef in the world, has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status and is home to a diving spot that can be seen from space.

The Great Blue Hole is an iconic diving spot and is the largest sea hole in the world. The circular sea hole is surrounded almost entirely by a reef and it is considered to be one the best diving spots in the world filled with coral, stalactites and rich marine life.

Belize Temples, Jungles and Wildlife

Belize was once the centre of the Mayan Empire and there are plenty of historic Mayan ruins to explore. Visit the impressive ruins of Caracol hidden in the Chiquibil Forest to see the tallest man-made building in Belize – the “Sky Palace” which is 143ft tall and features palaces and temples.

Other Mayan ruins to explore are Altun Ha and Lamanai. Animal lovers will want to take a visit to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary protects over 150 square miles of lush jungle, nature trails and waterfalls. It is a great place to spot the elusive jaguar, but you can also see other wildlife such as howler monkeys and small wild cats.

Caye Caulker Vibes and Island Life

Caye Caulker is a must-visit for a trip to Belize. The most popular cay in Belize, the main attraction here is the Split which divided the island into two after Hurricane Hattie in 1961.

It’s a popular spot for budget travellers and backpackers, and the vibrant island has snorkelling spots, deliciously warm waters to swim and lots of delicious fresh food to taste.

Stroll around the island snapping pictures of the colourful beach houses during the day and grab a drink in a beach bar come nightfall – it’s laid-back island life at its best!
