Bermuda Heritage, History and Charm

Bermuda is a self-governing British Overseas Territory archipelago located in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is Britain’s oldest overseas territory, and there is a strong British influence here which can be seen all over the country but particularly in the country’s capital city of Hamilton and in the UNESCO World Heritage town of St. George.

Here you can wander the cobbled streets of the town, visit British-themed attractions and enjoy afternoon tea in the elegant gardens of Stewart Hall.

Be sure to check out the Gothic Unfinished Church in St. George’s. This weathered, open-air church is a fascinating place to explore.

Bermuda Pink Sands and Coastal Beauty

The island is most well-known for its incredible pink-sand beaches which get their colour from a tiny shell of a red marine organism which when crushed mixes with the sand to become pink.

The most popular of these beaches in Bermuda is Horseshoe Bay Beach. This beautiful stretch of sand is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Coral-hued powdery sands and calm crystal clear waters make this a popular and usually busy spot.

Head down for sunrise and take in the views over the rocks at each end of the beach and enjoy a couple of quieter beach hours before the hordes arrive.

Other fantastic beaches to discover are Clearwater Beach which is great for kids and West Whale Beach where you can spot humpback whales from March to April.

Bermuda Caves, Culture and History

Aside from the breathtaking pink beaches, there’s plenty for travellers to discover in Bermuda. Head to the National Museum of Bermuda to learn more about the history of the island and its colonisation by the British.

Near the museum is the Royal Naval Dockyard which was the main Royal Naval Base in the West Atlantic up until 1995. It’s now a fascinating museum showcasing the island’s maritime history.

Those looking for a little adventure will love exploring the underwater cave system of Crystal Caves. Deep, crystal-clear pools of icy water and stalagmites dripping from the cave ceilings are sure to entrance visitors.
