Mexico: More Than Just Beaches

Mexico is located in the southern portion of North America but is officially part of Central America. It has borders with the United States, Guatemala and Belize, and it is the third-largest country in Latin America.

Mexico is known for its rich culture, incredible food and beautiful beaches – it’s one of the top travel destinations in the world and is popular with travellers from the United States as it’s easily accessible via air or land.

The country has a rich and fascinating culture, and there is so much to offer travellers here, and it’s not all beaches and sunbathing!

Marvel At Mayan Mysteries

Mexico is home to some of the most famous Mayan ruins in the world, including the iconic Chichén Itzá. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has been named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and is a fascinating sight to see. Due to its renowned status, it can get pretty busy, so head to other ruins, such as Uxmal, Mitla or Palenque, for a quieter experience.

The coastal ruins of Tulum are another must-see. and Tulum is a fantastic beach town with gorgeous beaches, plenty of restaurants and bars and is perhaps a little quieter than the famous party town of Cancun.

Tulum is also close to some of the best cenotes too. These turquoise water pools are natural sinkholes that have collapsed to expose the dazzling crystal waters underneath. There are plenty of cenotes in Mexico where you can jump into the chilly waters and explore these cave-like holes, which were incredibly important to the Mayan people.

Taste Mexico’s UNESCO Cuisine

Head to Isla Holbox for a tropical car-free getaway where you can explore the beaches, bars and beachside restaurants by bike. A huge part of Mexico’s rich culture is its food heritage. It is the first cuisine to be awarded the UNESCO Heritage Award.

The best place to taste some of the country’s best dishes is in the food capital of Oaxaca. Take a food tour or a Mexican cooking class to learn about the country’s food heritage.

Don’t forget to try some mezcal too! A relative of the more famous tequila, mezcal has a rich, smoky flavour and is the more popular local drink.
