Fiji Islands, Reefs and Culture
Fiji is an archipelago country located in the South Pacific Ocean. There are over 300 islands in the archipelago, and they are known for their superb tropical beauty, breathtaking scenery and the rich cultural heritage of the Fijian people.
The biggest draw here is the palm-fringed beaches and the dazzling tropical waters of the many beautiful islands, but there is so much more to Fiji than its tropical waters.
Of course, plenty of the best things to do in Fiji are around the water, and if you want to explore the ocean, head to the small islands around Kadavu to explore the Great Astrolabe Reef.
You can dive or snorkel this incredible reef, the fourth-largest barrier reef in the world. Fishing is also allowed in designated areas, and tuna and mahi mahi are some of the catch in these waters.
Shark Thrills & Island Chills
Adrenaline junkies should take a trip to the Beqa Lagoon to experience an underwater creature like no other – a shark dive. You will come face-to-face with several shark species, including bull, tiger, and blacktip reef sharks, in this exhilarating, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Discover Fiji’s most beautiful islands on an island-hopping tour of the Mamanucas and Yasawa islands, where you can relax and settle into island life. Snorkelling, swimming and snoozing in a hammock are about as active as it gets here unless you count the hike to some of the island’s fantastic sunset spots.
Fiji's Rich Past Unveiled
Head to Suva to learn more about Fiji’s interesting history at the Fiji Museum, which includes displays of cannibal forks used by the cannibal tribes of Fiji, the British colonial history and the influence of the country’s large Indian population. The museum is set within the beautiful Thurston Botanical Gardens grounds, where you can spend an hour or two wandering – for a slightly less gruesome afternoon activity.
Explore the lush natural beauty of the Bouma National Heritage Park, where you can hike through the rainforest, cool off in lush waterfalls and spot one of the many species of birds known to the area.
There is a large Indian population on the islands of Fiji, and you discover a little more about the Hindu religion at the Sri Siva Subrahmaniya Swami Temple—Marvel at the colourful murals on the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere.
You can take a tour from the nearby Alice Springs, which has plenty of other tourist attractions and things to do. Two of Australia’s most famous animals are the koala bear and the kangaroo, and you can see them in all their glory on the famous Kangaroo Island. Seals, sea lions and wallabies can also be seen here too.
Take a road trip along the Great Ocean Roa,d taking in the spectacular scenery along the coastline. One of the most popular sights along this route is the stunning 12 apostles, which rise dramatically out of the ocean.
