Bolivia's Thrill Ride
Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru. Bolivia is the only landlocked country in South America, but its lack of coastline doesn’t mean it lacks things to offer eager travellers.
Gigantic salt flats, a large population of indigenous people and adorable llamas are just some of the things the country is known for. Bolivia has what’s considered to be one of the ‘world’s most dangerous roads’, the Yungas Road or ‘Death Road’, which has dizzying 300-foot-high cliff edges. This winding road – which leads to the Bolivian Altiplano, is popular with adventure-seeking cyclists looking to get some thrills on this dizzying bike ride.
Wildlife Wonders of Bolivia
Bolivia is teeming with incredible wildlife, and you’ll find plenty in the Madidi National Park. This area of the Amazon basin is the world’s most biodiverse natural are, and you can catch glimpses of pink river dolphins, jaguars (if you’re lucky!) and plenty of bird and insect species.
Take a tour through the Amazon, stay overnight in a jungle lodge and wake up with the sounds of nature all around you. Travel to the beautiful Lake Titicaca to discover more about the Inca civilisation. This enormous sacred lake, which crosses into Peru too, is supposedly where the sun first rose on the Isla de Sol.
Take a boat tour out onto the lake to marvel at the dazzling blue waters and visit the floating islands and villages brimming with Incan ruins.
Bolivia's Starry Night
Want to get up close and personal with dinosaur footprints? Then head to Sucre, where you can see the world’s largest collection of dinosaur footprints! These incredible footprints have been in the rock for millions of years, and they are truly fantastic to see.
No trip to Bolivia is complete without a visit to the Solar de Uyuni—the Bolivian salt flats. This spectacular expanse of salt, left behind after a prehistoric lake dried up, seems to stretch on endlessly. When it rains, it creates an incredible mirror of the sky. It truly is a fantastic thing to see.
Choose an overnight tour that allows you to witness the beautiful starry sky—the flats’ location means there is little air pollution, and you will be dazzled by the nighttime views.
